As a physiatrist, I treat patients with any sort of functional impairment (from arthritis to MS and stroke) ranging from muscle/joint issues affecting gait or causing limitation with ADLs such as dressing, toileting, bathing, eating/feeding, and social interaction to more complex cognitive and emotional problems that are intertwined with physical disability. I work with patients, in conjunction with other providers, diligently overseeing therapeutic modalities (such as PT/OT/SLT/TR), while trying to limit use of medication, if possible. I have a special interest in optimizing mobility in patients over 65. I utilize wearable technology to make sure patients are responding to these treatment plans.
About me, have 10 years of experience in my field, with many years of research in stroke rehabilitation. Other areas of my expertise are concussion or mild traumatic brain injury, post-stroke sleep and mood disorders, moderate to severe traumatic brain injury, cognitive disorders, spinal cord injury, cancer fatigue, and musculoskeletal conditions. I also have quite a bit of experience with managing transition of care for patients going home or to inpatient rehab following prolonged hospitalizations resulting in severely reduced mobility.
I have a particular interest in helping those with developmental functional impairments such as cerebral palsy (hemiplegic, diplegic or dystonic), spina bifida, as well as functional decline with ageing.
I am especially skilled in Therapeutic Botox injections to improve range of motion in extremities with movement limitations due to post-stroke spasticity.
It is my passion to help patients achieve their functional goals – whether it be to increase a patient’s independence in walking longer or improving a patient’s golf swing. I would love to participate in the care of your patients with any kind of functional impairment.
I very much look forward to collaborating with you to improve the quality of life of persons in Middle Tennessee!
